Partition

Taking the pulse of the collective, finding a common rhythm

With Partition, the artistic team of Les ARCHIPELS (choreographers and performers) offered a large-scale exploration of participants’ perceptions of folk dance and the use of danced folklore as a creative engine. Participants were invited to deconstruct step sequences and figures drawn from collective memory while focusing on a central goal: maintaining a shared rhythm. The creative process alternated between discussions, improvisations, rhythmic games, traditional Quebec’s gigue, and movement.

This activity culminated in a grand festive ball blending traditional accents with modernity. Participants were encouraged to question their relationship to tradition and reflect on what it represents for them today.

This adaptable activity can be tailored to any group, paving the way for custom explorations where everyone can bring their own unique perspective and enrich this singular approach to dialogue between past and present.
